After a month of Scalin’ on Kongregate, it seems that 5000 plays = $4.24. That’s why. That’s even after integrating the Kongregate API into the game. Which is a true pain, let me tell you.
Let’s say you could keep this kind of traffic up for a year. That’s $50.88.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are games with much higher traffic monthly than Scalin’. One of the biggest reasons for lower traffic is that she’s made with Unity, not Flash.
Kongregate.com is a great place to play free games in your browser. It’s just not a good place for a Unity developer’s finished product. What the site does well though, is that it is a fertile testing ground for your unfinished products. Yay! Free beta testers!
IMHO, Unity is better for standalone games. If you can make a few sales a month, you’ll probably make more than if you put your Unity game on Kongregate.
Just my two cents, YMMV.
